“And talented. And also pretty.”

The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown

In 2012, Eleanor Brown spoke at the Arkansas Literary Festival as a debut novelist. As I stood in line to have her sign my copy of her wonderful book, The Weird Sisters, the handlers told us to have our book open and ready, and to write on a Post-It anything we’d like her to inscribe. “Anything?” I asked. Anything.
I reached the front of the line, handed my book and Post-It over to Eleanor, and she read it out loud: “Dear Savannah, you are pretty. And talented. And also pretty.” She laughed and graciously agreed to write it all down for me. Years later, we are internet-friends, and she assures me that that Post-It note is still in her own copy of The Weird Sisters.
